Remember Her. Cherish Her.
May 11, 2025
Mother's Day can be tender.
For some, it's a time of bunches of flowers, and heartfelt cards. For others, it's marked by a quiet ache and the weight of memories that live where a mother once did.
I was raised by a woman who stitched strength into every seam. My mother was a European seamstress who came to this country without the ability to read or write English, but she carried something more valuable than words. - ingenuity. She taught me that resourcefulness was its own kind of language.
Some of our most precious time together was spent on Saturday mornings at Fanny's Fabrics. We couldn't afford much, but we had imagination. We'd pore over pattern books - she had a soft spot for Butterick, always a little more sophisticated than the others, with their intriguing and intricate details. I remember the way she'd run her hand over the rolls of fabric, not just feeling the texture, but seeing possibility. She wasn't just planning an outfit - she was creating a future. A way forward.
It was there, in those quiet moments between pins and patterns, that I learned: style isn't about labels. It's about resilience. About creating. About making something beautiful, even in hard times.
That belief became my life's work. And I'm honoured to share it with you.
To the woman who are missing their mothers - whether the loss is fresh or softened by time - I see you.You carry her voice inside your mind. Her lessons in your choices. Her love in your bones. Still is with you still, in all the ways that matter.
And to those who are lucky enough to still have their mothers - perhaps older now, maybe harder to reach in some ways - please, cherish her. Hug her tighter. As the questions you've been meaning to ask. Thank her, even for the imperfect parts, because she was learning too.
Motherhood is more than biology. It's legacy. It's love. It's showing up in ways that leave a mark. Whether your mom is near or no longer here, take a moment this Mother's Day to reflect, to connect, to remember.
Maybe you light a candle. Maybe you make her favourite dish. Maybe have her favourite flowers in your home. Maybe you simply whisper a thank you to the sky. Whatever you do, do it with love.
And if you are a mother yourself - by birth, by heart, or by guidance - this is for you, too. You are shaping a legacy with every act of care. That's no small thing.
Happy Mother's Day - however it meets you this year. With grace, with memories, with love.
